Helping a team by not hurting it

Back in 2003, when Roy Williams was head coach at Kansas, one of his players remarked that Coach Williams has a simple saying that he repeats often to his reserves. In the player's words:

"He always says, 'You can help us by not hurting us.'"

In the same article, another player expanded (slightly) on those instructions, saying Coach Williams asks that his bench players to "just do your best on the defensive end and don't hurt us.'"

Almost five years later, Coach Williams' reserves at UNC are hearing the same message:

"Don't hurt us. Do anything you can to help us."
